What is Zia Rides?
Technically, we’re a company that puts on endurance mountain bike races in New Mexico. In reality, we are a bunch of folks that are passionate about mountain biking and providing the best possible experience to our racers, vendors, and spectators. In 2016, we’re putting on FIVE (maybe SIX) mountain bike races! Our goal is to introduce you to some of the best mountain biking you’ve ever encountered. And while we’re at it show your crew, kids, and dogs a darn good time! Zia Rides is best known for hosting well-oiled races on killer singletrack and entertaining more than just the racer. You will be getting a truly New Mexican experience at each and every one of our events. From Kachina dolls in Gallup, to belt buckles in Lincoln County, and to ristras in the forest we bring you the unique flavors of New Mexico.
We also believe in sharing the love. We donate a portion of the net profits for each race to charity. Here’s who we’ve helped over the years: Wellness Warriors (youth diabetes prevention), Rehoboth Hospital Foundation, Open Skies Search and Rescue, McKinley County Search and Rescue, the Boys and Girls Club of Gallup, McKinley County Recycling Coalition, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Posse, Eco-Servants, Ruidoso Trails Coalition, the CFIDS Association of America, and the McKinley County Youth Conservation Corps. We aren’t some supergiant national chain. We’re a bunch of locals working with locals to support locals.
Who are Zia Rides?
Just some of the most passionate, friendliest, funniest and best all around mountain bike folks you’ll ever meet! We love racers. We love racing. We love New Mexico. And we love building grass-roots, mountain biking races in some of the sweetest spots in the Land of Enchantment (also known as New Mexico!).
What is a Zia, you ask?
A Zia is a sacred symbol of the Zia Tribe and is the state “symbol” for New Mexico. You can read lots about the Zia on Wikipedia. And to help you non-Nuevo Mexicano’s out there, it is pronounced “ZEEEAAH.”
